Hietzing Happiness Project

Hietzing Happiness Project

project lead - Sarah G, CHO Assistant Vienna Happiness Project
advisers - locally, Angelika P, Owner of Vienna's first Happy Cafe
( also Aymee, Edwin, Genny, Henry, Charles, Mike etc )
initiator/ideator/owner - Nigel Stonham

goal - increase perceived happiness of 80% of Hietzings ( 56,000 ?) residents and ( xx ) additional commuting workers by 20% by end 2020, thus increasing job based productivity by between 17 and 47% thus increasing revenues in the community to fund the project. Happier people are less ill thus reducing costs in the community. Happy people live longer... win win win. As a Happy District, should attract more happy residents and more happy businesses to settle here...

method -  promote happiness as a choice, promote awareness of global best practice, survey residents and commuters at start and end of trial and overall periods, their perceived happiness on a scale of 1 to 10, and work to improve for each from say 6 to 8. Survey asks for 3 things they feel would improve their happiness by 10%, and local Happiness Teams work to deliver those things with participatory approach... Membership Verein, free participation, patronage opportunities

key actions - create a plan, form a team ( storm to norm & perform! )

note - Education underpins Happiness.... and is SDG4. Tracy has a great project to spread SDG Education in schools, thats a good base to add to this project.... Education brings communities together thus improves connection and reduces loneliness... Would be important for UK Minister of Loneliness to note... Also since many seniors have experience to offer, but dont realise the channels available to connect and communicate and grow, education can realise this... ( Learn with Grandma !)
our Education plan includes Cafe DEnglish, seeking to speed integration of migrants and to connect them with locals and of course locals to locals too. CafeDEnglish brings small gorups together, 6 Austrians with 6 migrants, for facilitated speed talking... both one to one and small groups. ideally it leads to friendships too which often formed in situations of shared interest. ( many migrants have no Austrian friends even after 4 years here... ) of course not many Austrians are attending German classes, so migrants tend not to meet them. many migrants have English skills, some are native, and in an English class "all volk are equal"... Cafe DEnglish uses the Lingophant app both in the gatherings and available 7x24 for members. The Austrians do not need to be "teachers" merely "native speakers" since the pedagogic requirement is online and they merely have to answer questions, be helpful and perhaps record some more phrases of use for the migrants to practice at home... Enjoy, have fun and choose Happiness!
