putting oneself in their shoes
Love this innovation. It’s little things like not having shoes that poor children feel huge amounts of shame and prohibits them from going to school.
This shoe expands as a child's foot grows and has been designed for children living in poverty. (Follow Tech That Matters for more.)
"The Shoe That Grows" is made and distributed by a charity called Because International | The Shoe That Grows, which helps children in poor countries by protecting them from the risk of walking barefoot. Diseases and parasites can spread through walking unprotected on the soil.
The shoes come in 3 versions which then expand into 5 shoe sizes. They are made from tough rubber similar to a car tire. The velcro straps and the front peg let you adjust the size. They were created after the founder saw children with inadequate shoes on a visit to Kenya.
Each pair is designed to last the child for up to five years and so far over 225,000 pairs have been given out in 91 countries. "The Shoe That Grows" costs $20 a pair to make and ship to the children and it's funded through charitable donations to Because International.
You can sponsor "The Shoe That Grows" for a child in need. Please visit becauseinternational(dot)org
