Dear friends,
When I was in my final year at University, 1984, I formed a dream
of running student accommodation in the UK, based on providing
quality accommodation and an all in package of roof , food, social life
and space to study at a price equivalent or better to the next best alternative.
For some time now this has focussed on creating a 50m2 room with 25m2
of wife enabled art gallery with 12 seats for learning, and 12 bunk beds
and kitchen in the rear. ( We are very close to creating this at my home
in Happy HIetzing ) . The intention in somewhere like the Nairobi Slums,
Freetown, or Kakuma Refugee Camp would be to provide a safe haven
for street kids ( Under the branding The Learning Street )
Currently this also includes an intention to build or create one or more
"Tiroler Heim" in Africa,
subtly promoting Tirol, my second favourite brand in the world.
Recent activity has led to a focus on Cameroon, where we have been
invited to submit social projects to a Lions Den type of event. This would
be a TV broadcast where "ideas meet money" - similar to
"First Tuesday Vienna" a concept which I brought to Vienna,
and led from 1999-2001. In order to progress this from Vienna
we are thinking to form a project team of 12 to flesh out the concept
and run a pilot project, from a building already identified in Cameroon.
Perhaps one or more of your residents would be interested to explore this further
much love
nigel
